NOAA/Daymet Annual Maximum Temperature (TMAX) County Summary 2022
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration / Oak Ridge National Laboratory
Population-weighted county-level heat exposure summary for 2022 derived from Daymet 1 km² daily maximum temperature grids, providing mean annual TMAX and counts of days exceeding 90°F, the 95th percentile, and extreme-heat thresholds.

How it's measured
Annual heat-stress indicators count the number of days in 2022 that a county exceeded the relevant temperature threshold, weighted by population distribution within the county. The annual mean temperature indicator is the mean of daily maximum temperatures averaged across the same population-weighted Daymet grid cells.
Limitations
Population-weighted county averages smooth over intra-county spatial heterogeneity in heat exposure. Threshold definitions (90°F, 95th percentile) are based on the 1991–2020 climatological baseline; the 'extreme_heat_day_ct' definition may differ from local NWS excessive-heat warnings.

|---|---|---|
Mean Tmax (°C) Annual Mean Daily Max Temperature Annual mean of daily maximum temperatures (°C) from NOAA climate normals. noaa_tmax.tmax_yr_mean | °C | 100% |
Days >95th Pctile Days Above 95th Percentile Temperature Number of days in a year when the daily maximum temperature exceeded the local 95th percentile historical threshold. noaa_tmax.over_95pctl_day_ct | days | 100% |
Days >90°F Days Over 90°F Number of days in a year when the daily maximum temperature exceeded 90°F (2022 normals). noaa_tmax.over_90f_day_ct | days | 100% |
Extreme Heat Days Number of days classified as extreme heat events based on NOAA climate normals. noaa_tmax.extreme_heat_day_ct | days | 100% |
