How it's measured
PM2.5 and AQI county summary statistics are derived from the EPA AQS monitoring site closest to each county's population centroid. Indicators include annual PM2.5 concentration summaries, average AQI, and counts of days in Good, Moderate, and Unhealthy AQI categories.
Limitations
Not all counties have an EPA AQS PM2.5 monitor; counties without a qualifying site are absent from the summary file. Coverage is particularly sparse in rural areas. The single-site approximation may not represent within-county spatial variation in air quality.
